New Release

It’s 1955, when scandalous affairs are never talked about, divorce is rare, a wife is a “homemaker” more often than not, and every Christian home displays its family Bible front and center. Certainly, a well-respected pastor in the conservative city of Muskegon, Michigan, would never be caught in the middle of a heinous secret that could ruin his career and break up his beautiful marriage and family. Or would he?

When Henry Griffin was stationed in occupied Japan in the mid-1940s, he met Rina Hamada, a Japanese woman who fell head over heels for him. Despite having a young wife and baby daughter waiting at home in the States, Henry had too much to drink one night, and one thing led to another… He knew it was wrong. He struggled with guilt and expressed his resistance, but she professed her love and continued to pursue him.

Now, ten years later, a letter from Japan arrives and threatens to upend Henry’s world. What to do and how to tell his wife are just the beginning of his troubles. Tough questions about faith, redemption, and preserving his reputation bring us here, under the shade of The Mercy Tree.

One of my favorite series ever was “Forever Freedom.” Thank you for writing it. I learned so much about the Civil War and all that people had to endure.

Suzanne from Pennsylvania

I so enjoyed the last book I read by Sharlene MacLaren, Her Guarded Heart. MacLaren writes with purpose and passion and intersperses life lessons along with humor and romance.

I love all of Sharlene MacLaren’s books! This one was a page turner for sure! I didn’t want it to end! It contains a bit of mystery, a lot of love, and a plot that certainly kept me engaged!

Sandi from Kentucky

With each of Sharlene’s books, I say, “This is the best!” Then I received Her Guarded Heart. This book is just wonderful!

Patty from Indiana

Her Rebel Heart took me through so many emotions. The characters easily came to life, and I felt like I knew them. I also loved the way Shar brought the history to light. It was easy to place myself in this era. I could hardly put the book down.

Jenny from Michigan

Her Steadfast Heart is an absolutely wonderful marriage-of-convenience story! This is the first time I’ve read a book by Sharlene MacLaren, but definitely won’t be my last. This story was very well written, and I felt as if I was experiencing the events and emotions right along with the characters as I read it. Can’t wait to get my hands on another MacLaren novel.

Allison from New Jersey

Sharlene MacLaren is my absolute favorite author. All her books are well-researched and contain a wonderful faith element that challenges me to dig deeper into the Word of God.

Sarah from Illinois

I just finished reading Livvie’s Song, one of the best books I’ve ever read. First time I’ve read one of her books but won’t be my last. In fact, I’m going to suggest we read this book at my next Inspirational Fiction Book Club meeting.

Roberta from Georgia

I have read all of Sharlene MacLaren’s books, and it always feels like her latest book is her best, but then I go back and reread one of her older ones and say, “Nope, this one is the best.” She just never fails to satisfy my reading appetite.
