Don Basham (1926-1991) nació y creció en Wichita Falls, Texas. Siendo un hombre joven, dejó una prometedora carrera como artista comercial en esa ciudad para ingresar al ministerio cristiano. Basham obtuvo los títulos de Licenciatura en Artes (B.A.) y Licenciatura en Teología (B.D.) de la Phillips University y su Seminario de Posgrado en Enid, Oklahoma, y fue ordenado como ministro de la Iglesia Cristiana (Discípulos de Cristo).

Basham se desempeñó como pastor en iglesias de Washington, D.C.; Toronto, Canadá; y Sharon, Pensilvania.
